GUIDEBOOK: Getting a Fasah divorce under the MMDA

This guidebook is a result of the many requests for information about the procedure relating to Fasah divorce that Muslim Personal Law Reform Action Group (MPLRAG) receives on a weekly basis. It is not a substitute for legal advice for individual cases. It is meant as a guide designed to provide information about what is in the current Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (MMDA) and give some practical advice based on what Muslim women have experienced.

The Fasah divorce procedures are inherently unfair and discriminatory to Muslim women. Check out our position paper on ‘Unequal Divorce under the MMDA‘ for more information. MPLRAG advocates for comprehensive reform of the Act and better procedures and standards in the Quazi court system.

Tamil and translations of the guidebook will be available shortly.
